Last nights episode on CBC's Marketplace exposed Universal Energy Corporation and it's money sucking high-energy sales piches to unknowing homeowners. This segment titled POWER OF PERSUASION aired on March 20th 2009. Hidden video cameras in potential victims houses would further expose these minimum wage renta-a-idiots to the public as Wendy Mesley reviewed the marketing tactics with two turned-around insider goons who no longer work for Universal but know all their tactics.
I had brought this subject to Marketplace's attention over 3 month ago and am happy to see it broadcasted to the unknowing consumer.

They will tell you that they are here on behalf of the government or 'you have to sign now for the lowest rate'. Your bills are YOUR business. Do you really think they are here to help you? How would they get paid? Just say that you are NOT INTERESTED and PLEASE LEAVE

I have dedicated this web site to the many survivors of the Universal Energy Corporation ca$h grab. The ones that have suffered being locked into these stupid 5-year 'agent' pressured contracts usually misrepresented, and/or falsely signed agreements. Though I cannot promise to get your money back, there is a possibility that I might be able to shed some light to what action you can take to void your over-priced contract and further educate you and others in regards to Universal Energy's deceptive sales practices. Remember you were conned in because you acted too slow.
Who am I....
My name is Bill Sithers. I am the proprietor/webmaster of this Universal Survivor's site. I started this site over a year ago with the good intention to further advise and warn people of the quick-handed, often times deceitful trickery used by these quick-hired and much promised independent energy marketers that will do anything to get a signature from an unknowing customer. Within one year I have had over 10's of thousands of complaints from people who feel they have been taken for a ride and/or tricked into something they or a family member never really wanted in the first place. Further researching has lead me to other affiliates, articles and even videos opposing the marketing ploys of this company.
What is Universal Energy Corporation and It's 'independant agents'?
Universal Energy Corporation is one of the many money-sponges that suddenly appeared out of nowhere when consumer power generation in Canada and some states became deregulated. They [Universal] have set their business up to market their material directly to the consumer as opposed to other formes of media advertising.
Why is this bad?
Well actually it is not in theory but in order to make sales and to stay above the crowd of other money-sponges Universal and it's compeditors decided to make use of disenfranchised sector of society by promising prospective employers 'great pay', 'management positions' and other 'benifits' and for the consumer large price reductions for natural gas and electricity.
These are all LIES but what does that matter to a company that does not care. Universal Energy then shields itself from further liability by making their agents 'independant' that nothing comes back to haunt them. This mall-hiring-room company does NOT bother with hiring one-on-one. This costs too much money, they would rather hire a room of 50 bums that showed up for free coffee and hope just one of them sells. Remember these 'agents' are NOT licensed hydro people, they are un-registered, insufficiently-trained recent layoffs, students, strippers, bums, and junkies that do NOT have enough training and cannot explain nor predict the energy industry correctly to you. This is a get-what-you-can job for them. They don't care one bit about you, your family or your problems and will not be around long enough [since no-one stays there anyways] to listen to your problems. they only want pay promised to them by their goon leaders. Ask yourself, why are they pressuring you? Ask to see their credentials badges, licence number they will never have this. They will ask to see your current hydro bill, write down the information and try to switch you over to the much higher Univer$al locked-in rate, sometimes without you knowing it. Your information is your private business and not theirs. Tell them they are a scam and you are NOT interested. I have created a more detailed list of what to do.

- Be aware of Universal Energy Corporation by name when one of these 'agents' come knocking and how to receive them.
- Let you the consumer know that you have options like the '10-Day Cooling-off' rule stipulated by the Consumer Services and other provincial/state regulatory bodies that oversee your right to cancel if you do NOT want this service, without penalty.
Needless to say Universal Energy Corporation is not to happy with the existence of the Universal Survivor's site. Some of Universal's independent marketers feel they are loosing money due to this 'exposed' forum and would like to see it closed so they can sell without interruption. This site conveys an important message that needs to be received. It is our duty as citizens to protect one another from falsity thus we MUST go on.

Univer$al's marketing ploy is to get a homeowner to $ign for a $50.00 cheque that has been delivered to the homeowner. This activates a 5-year locked in nightmare.

A typical Univer$al Energy Corporation day in suburbia going out and getting people to sign, or tricking them to signing. Here the unsuspecting home owner the goon $ales leader usually telling homeowners he/she is with the government and the one-day recruit who was told of many 'management' positions

"Universal energy gives about $125-150 per gas contract signed. Universal energy... want to know what this company's about? Let's start with how they recruit employees, then you'll understand how they get customers.
Note: This regards the Universal Energy hiring process in Toronto (Yorkdale Mall location)
1) They put an ad advertising positions for: office work, marketing, CSR, etc. They make no mention of their company name or anything to that extent.
2) You take the bait and call the number, a chick picks up and schedules an "interview". You may wish to ask about the position, this will be answered during the "interview". You may have seen the ad for this company hiring in the Toronto sun classifieds since 2004/5, but heck, you've already scheduled an interview and might as well go.
3) You go to the "interview" and see a hot milf behind the desk, you sit down with a few other sad faces until the interview starts
4) You, and everyone else there, goes for the "interview". You go into a room with everyone else listening to a shameless fat lard giving a presentation about how great the "positions" and company is. How much money and potential for growth there is.
5) TIME FOR THE "INTERVIEW"! One by one you get to sit in front of the fat lard as he asks you if you had experience training people, then he'll ask you the most important question... "do you have a good attitude?". If you answer yes, move to step 6.
6) He'll tell you to call back in the afternoon to see if you can come back for the REAL interview. When you call, assuming you can speak basic english and answered yes to the critical question, they'll schedule you for the "real interview" in about a week.
7) You FINALLY go to the REAL INTERVIEW. Go back to be greeted by the hot milf and wait around with the other sad faces. Finally some douche bag comes and takes everybody into another room TOGETHER AGAIN for another presentation. This time you will get to sit around with a bunch of people and listen to some douche bag or skank (Id hit it, but she talks so much that everyone there knows half her life story) give a presentation about how freaking great this company is and then watch an orientation (infomercial) video (WITH GUEST APPEARANCE BY TIE DOMI!). Bitch expects everyone to take notes, as there will be a test at the end of the video.. no need to worry, she'll give you a few answers! She'll make remarks about some kid by some name like Jason, proceeding to tell everyone about a 19 year old they call Doctor Jason because he makes doctor money.. there will be lots of stupid remarks like this trying to get you excited. At this point Im expecting she will want me to buy something.
NOTE: ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING WHAT THE %$@#! IS THIS JOB AND WHAT AM I GOING TO DO HERE WILL BE ANSWERED WITH "ALL QUESTIONS WILL BE ANSWERED BY YOUR TRAINEE".
8) You completed the test, skank will now pair a "trainer" with 3 candidates. You are assuming this guy will show you around some offices and answer questions. As you walk with him, he'll proceed to tell you only 1 of the 3 of you will be hired, you end up outside the office building walking through the parking lot (maybe thinking you're headed to another office building near by, this being a multi billion dollar company and all). Before you know it you are being squeezed into a van with some white trash hicks or whatever... great we are getting chaeffeured to the real location! As you are being driven squeezed next to a fat ugly chick, you may feel an impulse to ask "Where are you taking me?". This will be answered with some bull like to see what the job is about or soemthing that doesn't really answer anything, before you know it you are on the highway, at this point you may start to feel anxious as if you are being kidnapped, no need to worry. The fat chick next to you doesn't really know where she's headed either, but since she's been here for a week or two she says it's probably Ajax or something (AJAX! WTF IS THAT?). If you are like me you make a point to say you have a very important engagement you must attend by noon and cannot possibly go to Ajax. On the way there the "trainer" proceeds to pass around photocopies of his checks to show he makes 2G's a week off the goons walking around getting contracts signed. You may not care what the team leader makes, you may ask the fat chick what her lard butt earned so far, she'll respond shadily like everyone else in the company, but if youre like me she'll admit she's made nothing really; no need to worry, she "Really" likes the job, because she knows she'll make doctor money soon too. Once you reach the location (within Toronto in my case), the team leader / trainee will stop the car somewhere, and tell you to get out, some goon will accompany you, so I guess that's your real trainer. you will walk around with this person door to door like you did as a kid selling chocolates until 7 PM at night in the frigid Canadian winter. You are still not hired at this point, the goon you walk around with will tell the team goon about whether / how many sales you've made and THEN they will decide if you should stay around.
Note: This is as far as I can go with this, I unfortunately did not have the time to further continue this fantastic learning experience and actually walk around with one the goons learning the trade. The trainer was reluctant to drop me back, stating that he wasn't allowed by the company to go back and return people to where they were kidnapped, but dropped me off to another subway location which was more convenient for me anyhow. They may not extend this favour to you, I personally was ready to introduce his face to the pavement, throw him in the trunk, and drive the van back myself.
I just wish I could see every person's reaction at the "interview" once they get dropped off in the middle of nowhere...
So I wasted alot of time and some bus fares... but the experience is priceless, always follow your instincts. Now that you understand how they get employees, you may start to understand how they get customers."
